* COURSE OUTLINE: The Open Water Course consists of classroom sessions (approximately eight hours total) where the student will learn the basics of diving in the underwater environment. The classroom sessions are accentuated by self study on the part of the student. Students read and complete the learning reviews at the end of each of the five chapters in the Open Water Diver Manual provided in the class package. The class instructor will review the knowledge reviews during the class. Each chapter and module of the classroom phase will be followed by a quiz. A final knowledge test is the final portion of the class. Confined water training follows the classroom sessions. During the confined water session of the Open Water Diver Class, each diver will learn and review basic skills involved in recreational open water diving. Confined water sessions will prepare you to dive in the open water on scuba. Open water training is conducted at Lake Jocassee or the PDRA Quarry (Custom checkout dives can be arranged). The open water sessions are closely supervised practice of skills learned during the confined water sessions. Following the successful completion of the four open water sessions, students will be certified SDI Open Water Divers or SDI Junior Open Water Divers. Divers will receive a temporary diver certification card to be used until they receive their permanent cards in the mail from SDI headquarters. * COURSE SCHEDULING: All classes
are conducted over two weekends (other arrangements can be made). There is
a two student per class minimum and a maximum of eight students to ensure
student safety. Flexible scheduling is available to those who wish to
enroll in a private class for an additional cost. |
